Good morning / 早上好 / Bonjour / ਸ਼ੁਭ ਸਵੇਰ / Buen día Friend,
Welcome to the June 2024 Edition of the Openroom Rental Nexus Newsletter where I share what's happening in our community and take you behind-the-scenes as we build Openroom.
An Openroom Superfan texted me: "Weiting, Openroom isn't just a software company. It's a movement!" That made me smile. We are a movement because we've got the support of thousands of you with us - heck yes!
Hundreds of you have experienced our latest advanced search by creating an account over the last week during our soft launch. Now, I invite more of you to experience it!
You can sign in to make more refined searches on adjudicators, paralegals, tenants, landlords, and addresses. And, see the latest data we've gleaned from court orders with YOUR help.
To see beyond 10 results per search, you would need to upgrade to Openroom Plus. We're so thankful for those who contributed $10/month to keep Openroom running. That gets me and Vishal (my co-founder) at least 5 coffees at Tim Hortons!
I WANT TO SEE THIS NEW DASHBOARD!
Action 1: Upload your court orders to us so we can tell a better story together. If you work at a large firm that hasn't contributed to Openroom but use our search, please help us by sending us your court orders. All you have to do is share a Google Drive with us so we do the heavy lifting uploading for you.
Action 2: Reply back to this email to tell me what you think of us democratizing the court order data to share with each of you. Crazy? Useless? Helpful?
The Small Ownership Landlords of Ontario (SOLO) group is calling on 1,0000 Housing Providers and Good Tenants to advocate for fairness and reform in the rental housing market.
Great Tenants need to be protected and are most welcome to join!
This free event is happening at Queens Park (Toronto, Ontario) on Saturday, June 8 and another on
Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 11 to 2PM.
The Durham Landlords Association (Ontario, Canada) is hosting a TRADE SHOW & DINNER on Tuesday, June 11 at 7 PM EST at 285 Taunton Rd E Unit #1 Oshawa, ON L1G3V2.
You'll hear from accountants, commercial lenders, paralegals, and commercial real estate agents. You will have the opportunity to meet others and meet these professionals 1:1.
Aspiring rental housing providers are most welcome to join. The cost to attend is $20 for this meeting or $100/year to join in all events. President Joanne of DLA is looking forward to seeing people in person!
I had the opportunity to speak at the BHPA on Sunday afternoon and to watch the formation of a new organization to fight for the future of responsible renters and responsible housing providers in the rental ecosystem. Also huge thanks to PrimeAsia Television for covering the event!
It pains me greatly to see tenant advocacy groups fight against the housing provider groups. To build a brighter future, we need to work together. To work together, all sides need to educate ourselves on the root causes of why the housing crisis exists today.
The solution isn't going to come from 1 player. And, the solution isn't just "fix the LTB" or "government needs to fix this". It is so much more complex. I will write more on this topic in future newsletters.
That's why I'm very happy that grassroots organizations like BHPA have started. For those in Brampton or the adjacent areas, such as Woodbridge or Etobicoke, the BHPA team would be delighted to welcome you. You can contact President Ravi Sohal at info@bhpa.ca.
Help me better assist you!
Maybe, I'll see you this Thursday where you can meet and grill me LIVE. Check out this free event. See you next time!
