2024 May Openroom Co-Founder Weiting's Newsletter

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Good morning / 早上好 / Bonjour / ਸ਼ੁਭ ਸਵੇਰ / Buen día friend,

Welcome to the May 2024 Edition of the Openroom Rental Nexus Newsletter where I share what's happening in our community and take you behind-the-scenes as we build Openroom.

👩🏻 Top update from me, Weiting (Co-Founder)

Last month, Senior Reporter Ioanna Roumeliotis at CBC - The National interviewed a few of us for the story where landlords take matters into their own hands because of "desperation". I'd be lying if I said I wasn't desperate for changes to the housing crisis.

It aired last night and you can catch it on replay:

WATCH ON YOUTUBE

"Small Ontario landlords are calling out bad tenants and what they say is a system that allows them to get away with it. CBC’s Ioanna Roumeliotis talks to fed-up property owners who say a broken Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board is pushing them to the edge and forcing them to find new ways to fight back."

We are extremely honoured to be featured next to Kevin Costain (SOLO Board Member), Chris Seepe (Non-Payment of Rent Auto-Eviction Petition Organizer), Doulas Kwan (Director at Advocacy Centre for Tenants Ontario), Nazar Ajeely (Broker of Record, small housing provider) and Lorinda Seward (another small housing provider who is a mom with a special needs kiddo now stuck with non-paying tenants).

Action 1: Share a story with me so we can showcase your story with the Openroom audience. Write back to me!

Action 2: Do you want to join an official Landlord's Association or a great Tenant's Association? Email back and I'll share some with you so you can be involved and continue to make informed decisions.

🔖 Thank you, our Community

Last month, I asked if you wanted to test Openroom's advanced searching capabilities to find Paralegals, Adjudicators, and more.

You understood the assignment because we got very actionable feedback!!! I appreciate your involvement in helping us build Openroom.

Even if you couldn't test with us this time around, you will be getting access to the new Openroom Search experience real soon to continue to help you make informed rental decisions.

🤝 What else can Openroom do for me?

Building software is a small part of the Openroom vision of building a more transparent and connected rental ecosystem. Another critical component is to share experiences, knowledge, and helpful people with each other.

You can reach out to me when you want:

  • General guidance on your rental situation as a tenant or as a housing provider
  • Recommendations to paralegals, property management firms, private investors, or software tools
  • To learn 'what not to do' when you can learn from my mistakes
  • Connections to other housing providers, resources, or organizations
  • To share your story - like the one below from a fellow Openroom community member, Cathy!

I'll be right here waiting to support you.

What do you think of this May newsletter?

Help me better assist you!

Love it!
