2024 April Openroom Co-Founder Weiting's Newsletter

Good morning / 早上好 / Bonjour / ਸ਼ੁਭ ਸਵੇਰ / Buen día friend,

Welcome to the April 2024 Edition of the Openroom Rental Nexus Newsletter where I share what's happening in our community and take you behind-the-scenes as we build Openroom.

Top 1 update from me, Weiting (Co-Founder)

You have been asking me "what else is Openroom building?!".

Openroom's future is all about giving you information to make informed rental decisions. Whether that be court orders, data insights, or knowledge - we want you to continue to count on us to give you objective facts to make those decisions.

First up, we're inviting pilot testers to join us between April 20 to May 3. You'll be grilling us on our experience for logged-in members.

You'll get to browse the most recent orders, advanced search capabilities, and statistical dashboard experience before anyone else sees it in May 2024.

Action 1: Want to test with us? Reply back to this email and I will send you instructions.

From the Community

I was invited to speak at the Peterborough Landlord Association (PLA) on April 9, 2024 about the Openroom story and where we are headed. It was great to meet community members like Andrew, Deb, Naz, and Susan in-person after virtual chats.

Ioanna Roumeliotis (CBC - The National reporter) and her film crew came along. In addition, Chris Seepe (Auto-Eviction for Non-Payment of Rent Petition Author) gave an update on what was happening next.

The crowd had over 75 small housing providers from all across Ontario. Some of you drove 3 hours to join in the discussion and to show solidarity for a brighter future for responsible tenants and responsible landlords.

Remember, ALL OF YOU helped put Openroom on the map to be worthy of your attention and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart!

The Durham Landlords Association has an event next month to talk about next steps for the path to getting more housing units on the market and be a solution to the housing crisis. It is truly going to benefit the responsible tenants.

Whether you identify as a tenant, housing provider, property manager, legal professional - you are all invited.

I want to be involved

Out in the Wild

For those who happen to be on social media (Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, Facebook, LinkedIn, Podcasts), it makes me smile every time I see you talk about Openroom. You make us trend on one of these platforms each week - organically!

My mistakes were painful and expensive. That's why I spent thousands of hours dissecting the rental ecosystem complexities. Openroom has a fantastic team of advisors from housing experts, avid tenant advocates, and legal professionals to keep us honest.

Honestly, it provides me with great joy to see you learn (and laugh) through my mistakes.

Have you watched these yet? Each one of my videos gives a hard-learned lesson to you such as installing cameras on eviction day, tenant vetting tips, and legal name issues.

Have a good laugh
